Ryder Design was commissioned to efficiently add 1000 second story square feet to this Culver City residence. Our client was sensitive to energy consumption and wanted to mitigate his energy costs into the years to come. We advised the implemenation of structurally insulated panels, and created a lofty second floor flooded with natural light in addition to an artist studio on the back of the lot.

Sensitive to views, large second floor windows frame mature magnolia trees and the Santa Monica Mountains. Solar panels were integrated into the design of the gradually sloping roof. Also, a grey water catchment system was utilized with the irrigation system.
